THE RESULTS

GAME OF THE WEEK: CHELSEA 2-0 MANCHESTER UNITED

WHAT HAPPENED:
Chelsea secured a deserved 2–0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, but the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story.
United were arguably the better side in the first half, creating several excellent chances but failing to take advantage. Bruno Fernandes missed a glorious opportunity, Amad Diallo was denied by Mike Penders, and Matheus Cunha had a goal ruled out for offside. Chelsea also saw an early Estêvão goal chalked off, while Moisés Caicedo hit the post.
But after the break, Chelsea took complete control. Morgan Rogers produced a brilliant solo goal to break the deadlock before Cole Palmer doubled the lead from the penalty spot. United finished with ten men after Lisandro Martínez was sent off, extending their winless run to nine games in all competitions.
WHY WE CHOSE IT:
This had everything we want from a Game of the Weekend: quality goals, controversial VAR decisions, outstanding individual performances and a dramatic shift in momentum.
Morgan Rogers was the standout, earning Man of the Match honours after producing a superb performance capped by a brilliant solo goal. He drove through the heart of United's defence before calmly lifting the ball over Senne Lammens.
Chelsea's young Brazilian Estêvão was another player who caught the eye. His pace, confidence and willingness to take on defenders caused United problems throughout. He even found the net twice, only for both efforts to be ruled out for offside.
TURNING POINT:
United looked good in the first half, but their failure to take their chances came back to haunt them; the real turning point was Martínez's moment of madness, which ultimately changed the game.
Already booked for a foul on Rogers, the Argentine made the ridiculous decision to raise his arm into Wesley Fofana's face while defending a corner. Following a VAR review, referee Peter Bankes awarded a penalty and showed Martínez a second yellow card.
Cole Palmer converted from the spot to make it 2–0, leaving United with ten men and an almost impossible task.
Man United carried on fighting with 10 men until the end but couldn't convert their chances, most notably the excellent Mbeumo strike, which produced an equally impressive reaction save from Penders.
BOT90 VERDICT:
Chelsea showed exactly why they are becoming such a dangerous side. Rogers was outstanding, Estêvão looks like an exciting talent, and Penders produced a moment of real quality when it mattered most.
For Manchester United, this was another damaging afternoon. They had enough opportunities to take something from the game, but their second-half performance and sending off summed up their current form. Some players are battling to keep Carrick in the job, but others seem to want to help hammer the final nail in his coffin.
Final verdict: Nine games without a win is a worrying statistic, and the pressure on Michael Carrick is now at boiling point. Chelsea, on the other hand, are flying and now look like a genuine top-4 team again.
PLAYER OF THE WEEKEND: BART VERBRUGGEN — BRIGHTON

WHAT HE DID:
There were plenty of great attacking performances this weekend, but we wanted to recognise something a little different. Bart Verbruggen is our Player of the Weekend after producing an outstanding performance in Brighton's historic 1–0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad.
Yasin Ayari grabbed the winner, but Verbruggen was arguably just as important. He made seven saves to keep City out, helping Brighton secure their first-ever victory at the Etihad. It was a performance as valuable as the goal at the other end.
WHY HE STOOD OUT:
City threw everything at Brighton, registering 21 shots and six on target, but Verbruggen simply wouldn't be beaten. He produced an excellent save to deny Iliman Ndiaye, turning his effort onto the crossbar, before showing brilliant reactions to keep out Matheus Nunes.
Erling Haaland also found Verbruggen in his way. The Dutchman denied City's leading goalscorer with a crucial close-range save to the dismay of Fantasy Football managers worldwide, then produced another important stop as Haaland continued to search for an equaliser. Brighton's defenders deserve credit too, with Lewis Dunk and Ferdi Kadioglu making vital interventions, but Verbruggen was the last line of defence whenever City found a way through.
He also dealt brilliantly with City's late pressure, making another important save from Jérémy Doku as Brighton desperately protected their lead. Verbruggen was deservedly named Man of the Match, and it's easy to see why.
The reason we've picked Verbruggen is simple: without his performance, Brighton almost certainly wouldn't leave Manchester with all three points. He didn't just make a few routine saves; he repeatedly denied one of the league's best attacking teams when the pressure was highest.
WHAT’S NEXT?:
This was another reminder of how important Verbruggen has become to Brighton. He's now helped the Seagulls keep five clean sheets in their last six Premier League games, giving Fabian Hürzeler a reliable last line of defence as his team continues to climb the table.
Brighton have plenty of attacking talent grabbing the headlines, but performances like this show why a top goalkeeper can be just as valuable as a goalscorer. When you're trying to beat Manchester City away from home, having someone like Verbruggen between the posts can make all the difference.
FINAL VERDICT: Seven saves, crucial stops to deny Haaland, a clean sheet and a historic victory. Ayari scored the winner, but Verbruggen made sure Brighton took home the points.
3 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE WEEKEND

THE NEW BOYS AREN'T GOING ANYWHERE QUIETLY!
Hull, Ipswich and Coventry are showing they're not just here to make up the numbers!
Hull and Ipswich shared the points in an entertaining 2-2 draw, with Julio Enciso producing a brilliant strike to rescue Ipswich. Meanwhile, Coventry picked up a massive 3-1 home victory over Sunderland, climbing out of the relegation zone.
All three promoted clubs are showing plenty of fight, but home form could be the difference between survival and relegation. Hull remain unbeaten at home, and Coventry are proving they can pick up crucial points.
It's still early days, but don't write off the new boys just yet!

DEFENDING WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS, NOT PRETTY FOOTBALL!
Arsenal finally ended their 14-year Anfield hoodoo with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool, and it wasn't exactly a footballing masterpiece!
Mikel Arteta's side might not be playing the prettiest football, but they're getting the job done. Liverpool's much-hyped BIG W of Barcola, Isak, Gakpo and Wirtz couldn't find a way through, with the Reds failing to register a single shot on target.
On paper, Liverpool have one of the league's most frightening attacking lineups, but their expensive front four failed to deliver when it mattered.
Arsenal might not entertain everyone, but defending like that wins titles!

SIX WINS, SIX CLEAN SHEETS – BOURNEMOUTH MEAN BUSINESS!
Remember when Marco Rose was under pressure at Bournemouth? Well, things have certainly changed!
The Cherries have now won six consecutive games in all competitions without conceding a single goal. That includes victories over AC Milan, Aston Villa, Manchester United, and now Leeds, among others.
Evanilson is banging in goals, the defence looks rock solid, and Rose has somehow turned things around in remarkable fashion.
We spend plenty of time talking about managers under pressure, but credit where it's due. Bournemouth are looking like a completely different side.
Six wins, zero goals conceded. Not bad for a manager whose job was supposedly on the line!
BOT90 PREDICTION CHECK
Chelsea 2–0 Manchester United
Our Pick: Chelsea 2–2 Manchester United
We fancied a draw, but Chelsea had other ideas and ran out 2-0 winners. That's now nine games without a win for United, and the pressure on Michael Carrick keeps growing.
However, we also predicted Carrick would survive the weekend, and it looks like we got that one right!
Verdict: Wrong score, but Carrick lives to fight another day. For now!
The BIG Draw Weekend That Never Was!
Our Pick: Four or More Draws This Weekend
Well, this one didn't exactly go to plan! We backed Hull vs Ipswich, Brentford vs Forest, Coventry vs Sunderland and Bournemouth vs Leeds to finish level. Unfortunately, only Hull and Ipswich delivered, with the other three producing winners.
A few defensive mistakes and goals gifted away certainly didn't help our prediction, and our BIG Draw theory went straight out the window!
However, we did call Brighton beating Manchester City at the Etihad, but we stuck with our draw predictions instead. Typical!
Verdict: One draw from four. We spotted the Brighton upset but bottled the prediction!
FROM THE MANAGERS:
MITCH’S TAKE
Is Bart Verbruggen The Best Goalkeeper In The Premier League?
I'm going to stick my neck out here and say Bart Verbruggen is currently the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. I rate him highly, and his performances for both Brighton and the Netherlands have been consistently excellent.
Plenty of competition exists, with David Raya, Alisson, and Gianluigi Donnarumma all making strong claims. Jordan Pickford also deserves recognition for his consistency, while James Trafford is an interesting dark horse after some impressive shot-stopping performances. However, his tendency to make costly errors still concerns me.
For me, Verbruggen edges the lot. He's consistent, composed, excellent with his feet, and still only 24. Brighton have a seriously special goalkeeper on their hands.
DAN’S TAKE
VAR – Is It Actually Getting Better?
VAR certainly earned its wages this weekend! Red cards, disallowed goals and penalties- it felt like the officials were never away from their screens.
Mateta's yellow was upgraded to red against Spurs, while Chelsea vs Manchester United saw three goals ruled out, a penalty awarded and Martínez sent off.
It was also a weekend of disallowed goals! Bournemouth had one ruled out against Leeds, while Hull and Ipswich each saw an effort chalked off in their 2–2 draw. The Man United–Chelsea clash had three goals ruled out alone!
VAR is supposed to make football fairer, and many decisions looked correct. But is it genuinely improving the game, or are we spending more time watching referees than football?

NEWCASTLE VS EVERTON
Revenge on the Menu!
It's déjà vu at St James' Park on Monday night! Just four days after Everton dumped Newcastle out of the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 win, they're back for round two. The Toffees had Garner, Hackney and Barry on the scoresheet, so Newcastle will be itching to put that right in front of their own fans.
THINGS TO WATCH
Where will the goals come from?
Neither side's strikers have exactly been banging them in. Newcastle gave William Osula the nod ahead of Yoane Wissa in the cup, although Osula's ankle injury could hand Wissa another chance.
Everton's Thierno Barry is averaging 0.65 expected goals per 90 minutes, almost identical to Erling Haaland's 0.67. Yet Haaland has nine league goals to Barry's three. Barry's getting into the right positions, but can he start putting those chances away?
Moyes' Midfield Headache
We have been really impressed with Everton's all-English midfield trio of James Garner, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and young Harrison Armstrong. They're starting to build a tidy partnership in the middle of the park, but David Moyes now has a selection headache!
Hayden Hackney grabbed a goal and an assist against Newcastle in midweek, putting himself firmly in contention for another start. So who misses out? Does Moyes stick with the trio who've impressed in the league, or reward Hackney for his cup performance?
Everton have already beaten Newcastle once this week. Can they do it again, or will the Magpies get their revenge?
BOT90 CALL
